Gifted Shows How Father Figures Come From Everywhere

by dad2summit on January 20, 2017

Movies are important, because as Geena Davis often says, “If they can see it, they can be it.” That’s why we’re very proud to welcome Gifted, a story about unconventional families and how anyone can be a father figure without being a biological dad, to this year’s Sponsor family.

Gifted stars Chris Evans as a Frank Adler, single man raising his seven-year-old niece, Mary, whom her teacher (Jenny Slate) discovers is a child prodigy. Frank wants to give Mary the normal life he promised his late sister, but when Mary’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of Frank’s formidable mother, Evelyn (Lindsay Duncan), her plans for her granddaughter threaten to separate her from Frank. (Watch the trailer here.)

We’re also excited to announce a discussion with director Marc Webb—whose previous projects include (500) Days of Summer and The Amazing Spider-Man movies—to discuss his motivations for bringing this story to the screen!

We love the premise of this film, and we’re looking forward to see Chris Evans in this new dramatic departure from his recurring success as Captain America when Gifted opens on April 12.
